Carpet Repair Tips
66Carpet repair is something we all come across over time,
some will try to repair it themselves and other we call in a professional to
fix the problem. With the amount of
traffic walking over a carpet and the number of times you vacuum it, wear and
tear will be expected over time.
Things like accidental spills, pet stains, dents caused by furniture, burns and color fading are a common occurrence in households and there are ways to fix these yourself. I will go through some of what I know and hopefully it can help you out.
Repairing your carpet can at times be difficult but with the right tools most things can be fixed. If you don't feel comfortable trying to repair the carpet then just call in a professional carpet cleaner and they will give you a quote on fixing it for you.
Accidental spills
We’ve all done it; wine, coffee, tea, oil just some of the
many accidental spills that leave a stain on our carpets. There are numerous
different ways that people will tell you does the job and for me using a
product called Spot Shot Stain Remover works well. Now I haven’t used it on all
different stains, however after reading reviews on it, it’s seems to clear the
majority of common spills. I read a review by a professional carpet cleaner who
does carpet repairs and they commented on how it was the best product they had
used and that it leaves a wonderful smell for the home owners.
Another product worth a mention is Resolve Carpet Cleaner; I haven’t personally
used this but it receives positive reviews and is quite popular.
It’s a case of trying a couple of these products and finding the one which
works best on your carpet.
Pet Stains
The products mentioned above will also work on pet stains
but another thing to consider is these odour left by pets. Now I don’t have
pets, so I am working off other peoples experiences and Spot Shot does a good
job removing the bad odours.
Having a pet running around on your carpet can leave on odour on your whole carpet
so using a carpet shampooer, with the right carpet shampoo at least once if not
twice a year is recommended to keep your carpet looking and smelling fresh.
Burns
Burns depending on size can be a tricky thing to deal with
and you may need to call in a professional to get the job done properly.
Here’s a video that might help in repairing the burn on your carpet:
Dents
Another common occurrence in carpet repair is fixing dents left by your furniture. I’ve seen it when I decide to rearrange the living room and move the couch and chairs around only to find dent marks left by the wheels. There are a couple different ways to try and deal this and each helps:
· Hard bristle brush – use this to ruffle the section of carpet to stand up like it used to
· Ice cubes – put the ice cube on it and let it melt, then rub dry it
· Steam iron - hold it a few inches from carpet and brush the dented area
Color fading
The main reason your carpet color will fade is because of
direct sunlight and overuse. The 2 main options are to dye the carpet to bring
back the color or to buy a new carpet.
If dying the carpet it would be best to have a professional do it for you, to
ensure it is done properly. If your carpet is in good condition then dying it
may be the best and cheapest option, if not then it may be time to replace it.
Call around and get prices for both and see which one is going to work out
better for you.
So hopefully this article has given you a little guidance on carpet repair and you will be able to look after your carpets.
