B12 Shots, also called cobalamin injections, have often been used to treat people with acute anemia, which results from deficiency of this vitamin. These shots are very effective for treating skin diseases, reducing stress levels, acting as energy boosters and also in weight loss programs. B-12 actually belongs to the vitamin B-complex family. It is not easily absorbed by the body but if one consumes green vegetables like broccoli and spinach the absorption rate is enhanced.

Buying B12 shots online while not for everyone is an option and can work out much cheaper than going to your Doctor. The good things about these B12 injections is that you can administer them yourself saving you time and money as opposed going to your Doctor’s office. If you shop around online I’m sure you can find a good deal. If you are unsure about injecting the shots yourself go see your Doctor or a nurse at get advice on how to safely inject the Vitamin B12.

Many famous personalities are now rushing to take a B12 shotand it has almost become a fashion statement nowadays. B12 supplements can be taken in various forms like a pill, shot or a nasal spray. Intestines of some people reject B12 and for them B12 injections are very effective. But injections can be painful and might cause an infection. Chances of nerves getting affected are also there. The most effective way to take B12 supplements is by placing it under the tongue and allowing the vitamin to be absorbed in the blood stream through the mucous membrane.

Since Vitamin B-12 is not readily absorbed by the human bodies, people easily become deficient. So, regular and sustained intake of Vitamin B12 is necessary. Many athletes also take B-12 shots to get that boost in energy levels. There is another alternative B12 product available in the market which is a B12 patch. One such patch is equivalent to 1000 mcg of B12 injection. It is also safe, effective and painless. Many doctors also prescribe B-12 shots because of its positive effects. However not everyone can afford to take B-12 patch as it is quite costly. Side-effects like nausea, stomach upsets and pain in the joints occur in some cases when people are administered with these Vitamin shots.

If you need advice visit your Doctor and they will provide you with all the information you need before being administered B12 Shots

legendary231,

You can find out the level of Vitamin B12 in your blood through a blood test. If you have Vitamin B12 deficiency then you can use Vitamin in any form oral or injection.

Not everyone has Vitamin B12 deficiency. If you are eat proper diet you do not need to take Vitamin B12 or any other Vitamins.

I've had two b12 shots over the past four months and other than feeling sick for the first 24 hours I have not experienced any extra energy from the B12. I was looking forward to the shots and then...nothing.

I would like to get a b12 shot, do you think my medical would cover it?

nicole 19 months ago

I have been suffering from sever fatigue and a serious lack of energy! Falling asleep at work, or while Im driving! I have almost been in two accidents and drove completely off the highway once. I went had all blood test done. cat scan you and even a sleep study! All tests came out great! In fact it is safe to say that I am a pretty healthy woman. Still could not figure out why I was sooo tired. So I went in and saw new DR. he suggested a B12 shot, and to let him know at the end of the week if I notice a difference. Of course not 30 minutes after I noticed at significant change! I think I have found my remedy!

jaidee 18 months ago

I had my first shot about 4 hours ago. I was low a year ago when first tested @ endocrinologist. Tried sublingual/under tongue pills, but didn't notice a difference and stopped taking them. Had another test recently and my lab results were 314 where range is 200-1100. The labwork notes that "some patients with values between 200-400 may experience neuropsychiatric & hemotologic abnormalities." Yeah...lovely. Symptoms can be similar to Alzheimers... which I've experienced (@42) for the last few years (memory loss, occasional dizziness, lack of balance, shortness of breath, tingling in fingers & toes, and low energy). I have a family history of autoimmune (I'm hypothyroid). I'm not overweight, but I'm 5'9" and pretty careful about eating a healthy diet, low in packaged/prepared food, carbs and sugar. But, as the article mentions, those with pernicious anemia are unable to absorb b12 (natually or by pill) through their gastrointestinal system/stomach. So I sucked it up and went for the shots.... thinking I'd try to give them to myself. Doc wrote a script for a 10 ml bottle. Insurance didn't cover it, but it was only $10. Dose for me is 1 ml, once a week. (It's available in larger vials, but doc said smaller = less possible contamination than bigger bottles drawn from over longer time - makes sense). Doc showed me how to draw & inject. (I have 2 sisters who are nurses and I can't stand the sight of needles!!) :) The needles are very thin and it didn't hurt - but I was surprised and FREAKED by how far in the needle had to go!!!! It's like half an inch!!! Seeing the needle was so much worse than the actual injection. And I realized that my shoulder is way too close to my eye. :) I'll have to just jam it in my hip fat. Or drive back and pay my $10 co-pay for her to give it every week. Hoping I see improvement... And, seriously, if you think you're low, it's a simple blood test to find out. I believe labquest may even take walk-ins. (and, fyi, TSH, T4 & T3 will test your thyroid levels.)

jaidee 18 months ago

Just wanted to amend my previous comment, so as not to spread misinformation. The injection must be *intramuscular* - not just subcutaneous. (Although the doc did say I could pinch up some fat and give it in my hip, I know fer sure there ain't much muscle under there. :o) So thaaat's the reason why the needle is so long.

i noticed right away that when the doctor gave me my first b12, i could walk up hills without being shorth of breath..plusit has made me lose weight...about 30lbs..i always know when the next one is due, i start to feel sluggish...when i do get the shots, i do feel sort of sick for the first 24 hours, but after that i feel good.

I have been thinking about getting the B12 shot to help me lose weight. One of me co-workers was taking the shot and she lose alot of weight. I dont know what to do I have been struggling with my weight for a very long time now.

William 18 months ago

My Dad gets the B12 shot and it does pep him up. Some of you are writing about not feeling a change in energy. Are you getting enough sleep? If you are sleep deprived I don't think B12 is the cure for that. I have been working in a combat zone for 2.5 years nothing I drink eat or take give me energy for long unless I take that little pill that knock me out for 9-12 hours. Then I am ready to go. Proper rest is also key..

cathy freudenstein 18 months ago

I got my first B12 shot yesterday and had to go to bed because I was so tired! My arm swelled up and hurt like crazy, I can take pain, but this shot left me not able to lift my arm. I will be getting another shot in 3 weeks and hope I don't have the same results.

I GET A SHOT ONCE A MONTH, I GIVE THEM TO MY SELF. I HAVE LOTS OF ENERGY. I SWEAT SO MUCH, ITS LIKE MY BODY IS ALWAYS HOT.I WILL TRY THE SHOT IN MY HIP, I TRIED IT IN MY RIGHT THIGH LOTS OF BURNING. THANKS FOR THE INFO

Steele 18 months ago

Shots aren't a big deal i do the legs and delts. I workout so i have a lot of muscle to hit. I do 1000 mcg =1 cc every other day. I usually feel the energy increase 4 hours after injection. I don't think its a placebo effect, but everyone's different. If you inject its important to alcohol swab the b-12 vial and the area you inject. never reuse a needle. I use 25 g 1 1/2 inch needles don't even feel it. you can get away with 1 inch needles though.

PMAC 18 months ago

If you are morbidly obese you do not want an all protien diet that is so stupid. You are not going to find a miracle diet. If you want miracle wieght loss, then go get gastric bypass. If you want to do it right, then cut your caloric intake, and increase physcial activity.

Also eat right, learn what an empty calorie is and start eating food packed with nutrition not with fat, sugar and all the good tasting stuff.

You need to change your lifestyle, eating habits and most importantly learn how to eat. its not rocket science! And remember you didnt get that big overnight and your arent going to loose it over night, so educate yourself, go on a diet, get some excersize and start out light. Don't over do it or it will be very counterproductive!

tina 18 months ago

What tha? Really? PMAC, you obviously have never been overweight or struggled constantly with weightloss. It's also painfully obvious that you don't know diddly about the human body and it's resistance to lose weight. Some, like myself, aren't emotional eaters NOR do we gorge on unhealthy foods. YOU, my friend, need to educate YOURSELF on how different body types process different foods different ways before you start generalizing. And YES it is a science, otherwise they would've figured out by now why two people can eat the exact same diet and one will be effected differently then another. With that said, I just wanted to read up also on the weight loss aspect of the B-12 shots and appreciate MOST of the input.

Wanted to add how b12 shots have helped me. I was involved in an automobile accident where I was rear ended at a high rate of speed. Result, tramatic brain injury, due to closed head injury. Result trouble with memory and comprehension. In talking to a phsycologist to help with brain trauma I told him how difficult it is to concentrate and my energy is really low, also feeling stress and panic attacks. He suggested a blood test and discovered I was at a 194 count. Very low. In fact I have always sufferers from low energy my entire life. I am 45 now. I remember as a kid always feeling tired, and difficulty concentrating. The end result is the b12 does work for me. Energy and clearer thinking, more focus and stress free. It lasts for aprox. 2 1/2 to 3 months after one shot per week times 4. I believe I have always been deficient. These shots help dramatically for me. I notice easily within minutes after a shot. I was told it doesn't effect every one the same. So much so that the first night I have a tough time getting to sleep because of extra energy. I actually feel what I term normal after these shots. I hope my story helps. Because of brain injury, I have balance issues, had to re-learn to spell etc. I am grateful for this phsychatrist who thought about the blood test for b12 deficiency.

Jay 17 months ago

I got a B12 shot and I don't know if it's because of the shot or not but I can't sleep. I was totally wasted when I got the shot. Now I'm wide awake. The shot did not hurt but I "think" it is doing "something".

Mary 17 months ago

I had my first shot last week. I've noticed no difference so not sure if I should bother going for a second one???

Mike 16 months ago

I've been taking b12 shots for about two years for memory problems. My doctor noticed that my B12 levels were low. Taking them about once per month. I recently started giving them to myself and it is very easy. No pain. My needles are 1 1/2 inches long and I saw that the trim nutrition kit has only 5/8 needles, not long enough! Use the longer needles. The B12 is definitely helping with my memory problems.

I am a current student for MBA and I am full time worker. I am a single mom of 2 kids and I am exsosted. Between work, school, kids and my jiu-jutsu training I get about 2-4 hours a night of sleep. Yesterday someone had started talking about B-12 shot and how good it is, and how your energy boosting up and one hour later I was at my doctor's office asking him to give me a shot. He had checked my last blood results and gave me shots ( I also got a flu shot). So far, since yesterday I feel great. I am not falling a sleep in front of my school work, and I'm not feeling tired AT ALL!!!! So far I love it ( let's see if I'll love it in 2-3 weeks from now)

Janice  16 months ago

I have been taking B12 shots for a couple of years now, at first once a month, now 2 times a month. It does make me feel better, but I absolutely does NOT help me lose weight! I have been trying, no pop, etc and walking...no loss. Have never been told they help lose weight.

Cameron Meyers 16 months ago

I'm a seventy eight yr old man who had been experiencing stomach problems i.e. nausea and vomiting , lack of appetite , constipation and lethargy . I take metformin and pariet a proton pump inhibitor both of which inhibit the take up of B12 . I had been complaining for several years to no avail , in desperation I pleaded with my GP to help me , he put me on a major mode altering drug which exasperated my condition , as well he had blood work done and noticed a low B12 count , and injected me with B12 , the following morning I woke feeling alive and like my old self , this has now been five months with all the old complaints completely gone , thought it might have been a placebo , but after this time placebos don't work .

jenna 15 months ago

i heard your more likely to get pregnant after getting a b12 shot, any truth to that?

BardiChick 15 months ago

I have been taking B-12 shots for years. At this point I give them to myself. It honestly helps, I'm more focused, less spacey. I was told that extreme levels of B-12 deficiency can result in senility and symptoms resembling Alzheimer. I came online looking for information on other places to give myself the injection, while this didn't answer that question, it did give me more information about B-12 itself.

Dee 15 months ago

I get vitamin b 12 injections in the buttocks once a month for pernicious anemia without any side effects whatsoever. To get the full benefit of the b12 injection my doctor suggest I take one tablet of folic acid daily along with 50 mg of b1 and b6 vitamins too. After about 6 months I'm feeling great and not as tire anymore.

Xris 15 months ago

B12 alone will not give enough results for weight loss...usually they incorporate Adipex diet pill with it...and it takes about 6 weeks of a shot a week to notice any helpings....Medical usually wont cover unless you had the blood work test to prove you are low....try a weight loss clinic there abt $10 - $12 a shot

Alicia 15 months ago

I bought the B12 shots from trim nutrition and the instructions say you are supposed to give them to yourself intramuscular (which requires a 1 1/2 inch needle) but they send you subcutaneous needles (5/8 in long), i'm confused? Is this still working even thought the needles are short? And is it ok to give them to yourself twice a week? I am looking to raise my energy level, lose a little weight (about 15 pounds), and stay focused with school work and retain the information I am studying. Any advice or suggestions??

I began taking my B-12 shot on October 26, 2010. I have an appointment with my Doctor's assistant every Tuesday. As of today, Tuesday November 16, 2010 I receive my fourth shot and still have not experienced anything. My energy level have not improved nor have I lost any wheight. Any suggestions or advice

Alicia 14 months ago

To those of you who get the B12 shots, what size needle are they using? and where on your body are you getting the shots?

Christy 14 months ago

I recently found out I have a B12 deficiency and just started taking the shots and they told me to get them in the arm in the muscle, don't know if that is where they are supposed to be administered because the nurse thought it was odd that the dr ordered it in the muscle. Also it is a very small needle. The ones they gave me are about a centimeter long and it didn't hurt too bad. I'm hoping this weight loss thing is true about the B12 shots, guess I'll let ya know in a few months ;)

15 months ago I discovered a B12 level of 156. Have been having shots religiously every other week for 12 months and am only at 437. Still feel sluggish, memory and motivation stink. Nurses @ dr's office indicate they think my level should be WAY HIGHER after injections for that length of time but feel like I am being brushed under the rug by my Dr. Don't feel any results from the shots but have stuck with them b/c it is the only diagnosis I have received for my new way of life and the different person I am now than I was 18 months ago. Would be curious to know if anyone else knows their numbers and the results they have seen from the shots. Have appointment with new doctor next week.

Angie 12 months ago

Im 35 yrs old, and I began taking the b12 shots on Dec. 2008, 1/2 cc every week for 1 month then increased to 1 cc for 3 months and after that i have been on it ever since at 1 1/2 cc. I was at 200 lbs and im now 140 lbs just by doing the b12 weekly. It gives me great energy and it enhanced my sexual life with my husband. got my husband to use them too n he also lost 50 lbs....I recommend it to everybody.

Khalil 12 months ago

Use 22g 1.5 inch needles. A good idea to combine 1ml B12 and 1ml B-complex in the syringe before injecting.

Inject it into the top part of your butt, make sure you get the needle into the muscle before you push down on the syringe, no point getting it into the fat.

You could also inject yourself in the shoulder muscle, the outer deltoid on the top of your arm, however, this tends to be a lot more painful.

Well when young with lot's of allergies I gave myself allergy shots and B-12 shots every two weeks for years. So doing shots no problem. Some people have big jump in energy if B-12 in their main problem.Try Natural Factors 5000mcg sublingual if needles bother you.

I started B12 today on the advise of my doctor. I ordered it through Pumpnpose, very affordable and my pins through a lab. Within hours of the first injection I FINALLY felt an increase of energy. I'm going to start giving it to my pre-teen and husband.

I got my first B12 shot 4 days ago. I suffer from chronic stump pain from an above knee amputation with several failed stump revisions resulting in nerve damage. The B12 shot has caused severe joint pain all over - how long before this shot wears off? I will never do this again. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a breathing problem n this extra weight isn't helping me. I take steroids for my lungs but I wat to know if B12 will help me lose weight.Because this extra weight is targeting me in my stomach n it's hurt me.

I have been receiving the B12 shots for almost a year now. I can completely tell when I am low or close to the time for my shot. I become extremely tired, sleeping all the time and my thinking becomes cloudy. I haven't exactly seen the benefits of losing weight, but it does make you feel better. As far as the painful shot...it only feels like a prick of the finger or a paper cut. Sometimes I can feel the fluid enter my arm, but most of the time it is done within 3 minutes. It has improved my health overall, since I do not really eat red meat.

I had a lot of problems with being sick frequently and having a lot of fatigue. I recently went to my doctor and they did blood tests, which revealed that my folate level was extremely low. I am now taking folic acid pills and recently he said i should get b12 shots as well. Today I had my third shot (I'm getting b12 shots everyday for a week, then it moves to one a week, and at some point just once a month.) I have noticed a little bit of an energy boost (mostly today I am very energetic.)

Have been having a lot of problems with my back and sciatic nerves in both of my legs. I started B12 injections this week and after two days the constant pain and tension I felt in the back of my legs all day long is gone. Love B12 I plant to keep taking them.

Hayley 7 months ago

I have been going for shots 2 times a week for three weeks to boost my levels because they were so low. My doctor told me not to expect to feel a difference in my energy levels for about two weeks. It was at about two and half weeks that I felt any different. I'm still to go at least another week 2 times a week. My doctor is going to do more blood work and determine if I can then go to once a month. Do not think that this is a miracle cure and that you will feel different right away. When you body absorbs B12 it also flush away alot of the excess since it is a water soluable vitamin. It will take time for you bodies store to come back to normal.

My doctor thinks I am a poster child for b12. I did not have my levels tested and was taking it once a week for weight loss. Who with in an hour of taking it my mood changed, many of the aches and pains went away. I had so much energy. I really had not felt that well on a long time. My doctor said I was an exception most people did not have as dramatic of a result. I lost weight and have stopped taking them. I can feel things getting bad again mood wise amd pain wise. Will be getting back on them soon!

NM 5 months ago

A blood test showed B12 deficiency and my dad also had it so my Dr. put me on B12 shots (he said I could take pills but that was over0the-counter and I had coverage for prescription so I had heard of the effectiveness of B12 shots so I requested them, and he allowed it). Anyways, I have lost 6 pounds in the 1st month. It also apparently helps metabolism. Hope this helps someone. I also feel stress due to high blood pressure, and am on Coversyll for HBP so this may have helped balance my stress levels, not sure at this early stage but I have no reason or symptoms to believe otherwise. After reading all of your comments, I definitely would support the thought that B12 shots help balance high blood pressure and breathing difficulties related to stress. THX for all your inputs. And chill hey...those of you who sound offended to other's comments....everyones's testimony is there own, no one can refute their personal story :) Peace :)

When I was in in motorcycle accident 3 years ago. I started pain management. Along with all the meds I take B12 was great. Shots I preferred was the best wayto take as long as you no how to clean and deliver right duuuuh been to a doc alcohol wipe deliver then disposal of needle properly is important always keep out of the reach of children. Feel great love it. Testosterone shots oochh that sucks. But like B12 it can come in A pill.

Karen 4 months ago

There is definitely a better way to get B12 into your body other than shots and tablets. I found out I had B12 deficiency during my pregnancy and had to take the shots to prevent birth defects. A few months later, my friend introduced me to Xs, which is an energy drink with ZERO sugar, ZERO carbs, and 4900% B12. As we all know, the B12 is a water soluble vitamin, so whatever our body needs, it absorbs it, the rest is discarded through urine. The coolest part about this drink is that it comes in 15 different flavors and all the flavors taste great (not like the other energy drinks). My doctor was totally fine with it. I feel it is such a hassle free and safe alternative - dont have to worry about needles, getting prescription, etc. With Xs, you get your B12, lose weight, increase metabolism and at the same time you can enjoy it (tastes like soda). Its so easy to order. Check out this link for more information - http://www.amway.com/Shop/Search/SearchResults.asp

I have been taking these shots off and on for 2yrs..I can't speak for others, but as soon as I get my shots within the hour I feel an extreme boost of energy..B-12 is great for weight-loss along with a dietary pill and water pill..As long as you continue to workout with it you will see results..Don't get me wrong you will see slight results w/o any excercise..Yet don't expect to see drastic results w/o some effort..You have to drink plenty of water and cut your calorie intake..

I've been using the B12 injection for years now. I inject myself twice a week with 2ml's at a time. Yes, it does not necessary give you energy but boy it does make you loose weight. And thinking about it I'd rather be skinny and tired than be overweight and energetic. To be honest I love the injection and the best place I found to inject myself is in the bum.

shelly 2 days ago

I just started taking B12 injection. My doctor injected. Feel alot more energetic then I have in along time. Wish I would of had these shots along time ago!
